The record

What a number plate check tells you

For an Islamabad plate, the registration number is enough on its own. The excise record comes back in three parts, and how much of it is filled in depends on what the register holds for that vehicle.

The vehicle
Make, model, model year, colour, body type and engine size. Enough to tell whether the car in front of you is the car on the paperwork.
The identifiers
Registration number, chassis number and engine number, as recorded. These are the numbers to match against the ones stamped on the vehicle itself.
Registration and tax
Registration date, purchase date, registration status, the city of registration and how far the token tax is paid. Where the register records a hire purchase agreement, meaning the vehicle is under finance, that shows too.

Motorcycles are covered the same way as cars, on the same registers and with the same fields. The registered owner appears where the record includes it, but you cannot search by a person: there is no lookup by name and none by CNIC, deliberately.

It does not tell you whether a vehicle is stolen. An excise record is a tax and title record, not a theft check — what does work is a police check, and it is cheaper than you think.

Which regions are covered?

Vehicle registration in Pakistan is not held in one place. Each province and the capital territory keeps its own register, run by its own excise department. A plate issued in one will not appear in another.

We search the Islamabad register only. If your vehicle is registered anywhere else, an empty result here means we did not look, not that the vehicle does not exist. The letters on the plate will not tell you which register holds it — here is why that is, and what to do instead.

How do I check a vehicle registration number in Pakistan?
Enter the registration number in the box above. VehicleCheckPK queries the official excise records for you and returns the vehicle details, including make, model, engine and chassis numbers, and the registered owner where the record includes it.
Can I check a motorcycle or bike registration?
Yes. Motorcycles sit on the same excise registers as cars and are searched exactly the same way, by registration number. The record comes back with the same fields, including engine size, chassis and engine numbers, and how far the token tax is paid.
How do I check who owns a vehicle?
Enter the registration number. Where the excise record names a registered owner, VehicleCheckPK shows it as part of the record. The reverse is deliberately not possible: you cannot search for a person and see their vehicles, because there is no lookup by name and none by CNIC.
Does it cost anything?
No. The lookup is free and there is no account to create. The government portals are free too. What this adds is one box for every region, and an answer even when those portals are unavailable.
What happens if the government portal is down?
If we already hold a record for that number, we show it, labelled with when it was last confirmed, and we name the portal that did not respond. If we have never seen the number before, there is nothing to fall back on and we say so. What we will never do is tell you a vehicle is unregistered because we could not reach the register.
Which format should I type the number in?
Any of them. ABC-1234, abc 1234 and ABC1234 are all understood and treated as the same registration number.
Why might a number return no record?
Most often the vehicle is registered in a region we do not cover yet. It can also mean the register itself has no entry under that number: some older or recently transferred vehicles are missing from the online systems even though they are properly registered on paper.
Is this an official government service?
No. This is an independent service. The vehicle registers are maintained by the excise and taxation departments of each province and of the Islamabad Capital Territory, and those departments remain the authoritative source. For any legal purpose, confirm the record with the relevant excise office.
