E-challan check online by vehicle number: PSCA Punjab, Islamabad and Karachi

9 min read · Facts checked

Use the official page of the authority that issued the ticket. Islamabad Traffic Police's e-challan page searches by vehicle number. Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) wants the plate plus your CNIC or chassis number. For Karachi, Sindh Police's TRACS site wants your CNIC, registered mobile number and plate together. We could not load Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's page, and found no online lookup for motorway or Balochistan challans. VehicleCheckPK does not check challans.

We found no single e-challan or traffic challan check that covers all of Pakistan. Each traffic authority runs its own system, so the page you need depends on who issued the ticket. A search on one system tells you nothing about the others.

The table shows what each official page asked for when we checked it. Of the pages we could read, only Islamabad's searches by vehicle number without a CNIC or chassis number.

Fined outside the region that registered the vehicle? We could not establish how these systems handle a vehicle registered in another part of the country. PSCA's form, for example, asks for a number shaped ABC-00-0000, and not every plate is written that way. If that is your situation, ask the traffic police for the area where the ticket was issued.

Have the registration book or smart card to hand before you start. It gives you the registration number exactly as registered, and the chassis number that PSCA's form accepts in place of a CNIC.

How do I check an e-challan in Islamabad?

Islamabad e-challans are checked on the Islamabad Traffic Police e-challan page. Islamabad Traffic Police is often shortened to ITP. The form asks for:

Results can include challans that have already been paid. Check the paid or unpaid status of each one before deciding what you owe.

The traffic record and the vehicle's registration record are held by different departments. Islamabad Excise holds registration and token tax, which our Islamabad vehicle verification page and the Islamabad token tax guide cover. Neither of those shows challans.

How do I check a PSCA e-challan in Punjab?

Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) camera fines are checked on the PSCA e-challan page. Its address ends in .gop.pk rather than .gov.pk, and that is the genuine one. PSCA's cameras operate in cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, Bahawalpur and Sargodha.

The plate alone will not do. The form asks for three things:

  1. Registration number, in the format the page itself gives: ABC-00-0000. That is three letters, two digits and four digits, separated by dashes.
  2. Your CNIC or your chassis number. The same field takes either. If you use the CNIC, type it without dashes, which is what the form's own validation message asks for.
  3. A Google reCAPTCHA, the 'I'm not a robot' box.

'No record found.' is not proof of a clean record. If the registration number is typed in any other shape, such as ABC1234, the page can answer 'No record found.' instead of showing an error. That looks exactly like a vehicle with no fines. Check the ABC-00-0000 format before you believe it.

If you use the chassis number, it is on your registration book or smart card, and also on the sale invoice and the sale certificate. On Pakistani papers it is labelled 'Chassis No.', not 'VIN'. Do not assume it is 17 characters long. Motorcycles and older locally assembled vehicles often carry shorter frame numbers, so type exactly what is printed.

PSCA does not hold every Punjab challan

PSCA's system holds Safe City camera fines. A challan written by a traffic warden sits in a separate system. ePay Punjab's public challan details page looks a challan up by its PSID, not by vehicle number. So it can find a challan whose PSID you already have, but not one you do not know about. A clean PSCA result says nothing about warden-issued tickets.

One more Punjab page turns up in searches. City Traffic Police Multan has a traffic challan page, but it is an information page. The only box on it is the website's own search.

How do I check an e-challan in Karachi?

Karachi e-challans are checked on Sindh Police's TRACS site. TRACS stands for Traffic Regulation and Citation System. We did not establish which other Sindh cities it covers.

Its form asks for the most of any page in this guide. All three of these are marked as required, and there is an 'I'm not a robot' check as well:

If the vehicle is registered to a bank, a leasing company or another company, a separate tab takes the chassis number in place of the CNIC.

There is also an official TRACS app for citizens on the iPhone and Android app stores. We have not examined what the app asks for.

The Sindh excise registration record is a separate matter, held by a different department. See Sindh vehicle verification.

Can I check a traffic challan online in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa?

We could not confirm it. Peshawar Traffic Police has a challan verification page, and it is the page the KP Police website links to. We could not load it, so we cannot tell you what it asks you to type, or whether it searches by vehicle number.

The other KP traffic addresses we tried either lead back to that page, are empty placeholders, or do not exist. If you need to know about a challan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, ask the traffic police who issued it.

Can I check a motorway challan online?

No. We found no lookup that lets a driver search National Highways & Motorway Police tickets. The NHMP website has no challan or e-ticket search on it. NHMP's e-ticketing system and the e-NHMP app are the tools officers use to issue tickets on the spot, not a way for drivers to look one up.

The route open to a driver is to pay a motorway ticket against its PSID through a bank. Treat any site offering to find NHMP challans from a plate with suspicion: we found no official page that does it.

Is there an online e-challan check for Balochistan?

We found none. A search of government domains turned up traffic challan pages for Islamabad, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and nothing for Balochistan. Reporting describes traffic enforcement there as manual. For a Balochistan ticket, deal with the traffic police who issued it.

Which e-challan websites are official?

The official pages are the ones in the table above, and in search results they are outnumbered. One search for Islamabad's e-challan returned at least seven lookalike sites. A search for PSCA's page turned up the largest group of lookalikes we found. Results for Karachi and Sindh challans are crowded with them too. None of them is a traffic police page, and we cannot tell you where their answers come from.

Before you type a plate, a CNIC or a mobile number into an e-challan page, look at the address bar:

Does VehicleCheckPK check challans?

No. VehicleCheckPK does not check challans for any region, and it does not look up people. It returns one thing: the excise registration record for a vehicle registered in Islamabad, from the plate alone.

That record shows the make, model, year, engine and chassis numbers, registration date and how far the token tax is paid. It holds no traffic fines. The box below is that registration lookup, not a challan check.

Check an Islamabad plate now

Islamabad is the one register we can answer, and you need only the plate. For a vehicle registered anywhere else this box will not find it, and an empty result means we did not look.

Any format works, ABC-1234 or abc 1234.

Registration date (optional, helps Islamabad)

Just the year narrows it; the month narrows it more; the exact date is instant. It is printed on the registration card.

Common questions

Can I check a challan using only the number plate?
In Islamabad, yes. Islamabad Traffic Police's e-challan page searches by vehicle number, with a captcha. On the other official pages we could read, the plate is not enough. Punjab Safe Cities Authority wants your CNIC or chassis number alongside it. Sindh Police's TRACS page, used for Karachi, wants your CNIC, registered mobile number and plate together. We could not load Peshawar Traffic Police's page, so we cannot say what Khyber Pakhtunkhwa asks for.
Why does the PSCA page say 'No record found.' for my vehicle?
Check the format first. PSCA asks for the registration number as ABC-00-0000, and a number typed in another shape can return 'No record found.' rather than an error. Then check the kind of ticket. PSCA holds Safe City camera fines only. A challan written by a traffic warden sits in a separate system, which ePay Punjab looks up by PSID rather than by plate.
Is it safe to type my CNIC into an e-challan website?
Only on the official page. The Sindh Police TRACS form asks for a CNIC, the Punjab Safe Cities Authority form accepts one, and lookalike sites rank for the same searches. Before you type anything, check that the address matches one of the official e-challan pages listed in this guide. A name containing 'echallan' or 'psca' proves nothing: lookalikes use those words too.
If one e-challan portal shows nothing, is my vehicle clear everywhere?
No. Islamabad Traffic Police, Punjab Safe Cities Authority and Sindh Police TRACS are separate systems, and an empty result on one says nothing about the others. PSCA covers Safe City camera fines, not warden-issued challans. We found no online lookup for motorway tickets, and we could not load Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's page. An empty result covers one system, not the vehicle.
Is there an official app for Karachi e-challans?
Yes. Sindh Police has an official TRACS app for citizens on both the iPhone and Android app stores. On the App Store it is listed as TRACS 4 Citizens. We have not examined what the app asks for. On the web, the TRACS check-challan page asks for your CNIC, registered mobile number and vehicle registration number, plus an 'I'm not a robot' check.
