Punjab vehicle verification

We cannot check a Punjab plate for you, and this page says plainly why rather than burying it. What follows is what the official lookup demands, what it will and will not tell you, and how to work it yourself.

How Punjab vehicle records work

Punjab holds the largest vehicle registry in Pakistan, served by the MTMIS system run by the Excise, Taxation & Narcotics Control Department. Its lookup needs three things: the vehicle number, the registration date and a picture captcha. The plate on its own will not open it, for anyone, and the captcha means no third party can run it for you. The form has changed more than once: it had a single field until at least 8 November 2023, it asked for the chassis number on 26 August 2026, and when we checked on 4 October 2026 the chassis field had been replaced by the registration date. That is why so many guides describe a form that no longer exists.

Why other guides describe a different form

They were right when they were written. The MTMIS form has changed at least twice, and most of the pages ranking for this question have not kept up.

Until at least 8 November 2023: the vehicle number alone: The form had a single field. Guides that say the plate is enough date from then.
26 August 2026: the vehicle number and the chassis number: A chassis field had been added, and a plate on its own was rejected. Guides that send you looking for a chassis number date from then.
4 October 2026: the vehicle number and the registration date: When we checked, the chassis field was gone. In its place the form asks for the registration date, and a picture captcha.

All three inputs are marked required in the form itself. That is why no third-party site can check a Punjab plate for you, ours included, and why any that claims to is either using stale instructions or is not doing what it says.

Where to find the registration date MTMIS asks for

On the registration book, or the smart card that replaced it. MTMIS cannot tell you the date, because it asks for it before it shows anything, so the papers are the place to look.

It is the registration date, not the purchase date: The form’s label is Registration Date. A vehicle’s purchase or invoice date can be a different day.
You pick it from a calendar: The field is a date picker, so there is no format to get wrong: choose the day, month and year printed on the papers.
The fuel relief SMS asks for the same date: Registering for the Rs 100 a litre petrol relief on 9771 takes the registration date too, typed as eight digits. The 9771 SMS format.

Running the lookup yourself

Go to mtmis.excise.punjab.gov.pk, enter the vehicle number, pick the registration date, type the picture captcha and press Search. It is free.

If it comes back empty, the format is the usual culprit, and the portal publishes its own examples of what to try: lxz 123, lxz 0123, lxz 1111 and lxz-07-1111. So try a leading zero, and try it with and without a space. Then check the date against the registration book.

Transfer, token tax and the rest

Biometric verification is now required: Punjab introduced biometric verification through the NADRA PAK-ID app for registering and transferring a vehicle in early 2026. Any transfer checklist written before then is out of date, including some still published on official pages.
Token tax: pay the year by 31 August for 10% off: A 10% rebate for paying the full year’s motor vehicle token tax on or before 31 August is a standing rule on the department’s rates page, not a seasonal promotion.

We cannot tell you the transfer fee. Punjab Excise publishes two different transfer fee tables on its own website. One gives Rs 2,750 for a car up to 1000cc; another gives Rs 4,540 for the same vehicle. They differ by a consistent factor across every band, so this is not a rounding difference.

Rather than pick one and be wrong for half our readers, we are telling you it is disputed. Get the total at the counter before you commit to it.

How do I check a vehicle registration number in Punjab?

Not here. Use Punjab MTMIS at https://mtmis.excise.punjab.gov.pk/, run by Excise, Taxation & Narcotics Control Department, Punjab. It is free. This page sets out what that lookup asks for, because it is more than the plate and most guides get it wrong.

Which department holds Punjab vehicle records?

Excise, Taxation & Narcotics Control Department, Punjab, through its Punjab MTMIS system. That department is the authoritative source and the only one that can certify a record.

Can I do car verification in Punjab by CNIC?

Not on MTMIS. Its form asks for three things, the vehicle number, the registration date and a picture captcha, and has no CNIC field: car and bike verification in Punjab starts from the vehicle, not from its owner. VehicleCheckPK does not search by CNIC either, and will not build one.

Where do I find the registration date MTMIS asks for?

On the registration book, or the smart card that replaced it. MTMIS cannot tell you the date, because it asks for it before it shows anything. It is the same date the 9771 fuel relief SMS asks for.

Why can VehicleCheckPK not check Punjab plates?

Because the official lookup asks for more than we can supply on your behalf. Punjab MTMIS requires the registration date, which is printed on the owner’s papers, and a captcha, which is designed to stop exactly what we would be doing. We would rather say so than return an empty result you might read as "no such vehicle".

Is VehicleCheckPK an official Punjab government service?

No. This is an independent service and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Excise, Taxation & Narcotics Control Department, Punjab. For any legal purpose, confirm the record with the excise office directly.

Can a plate lookup tell me whether a vehicle is stolen?

Not in a way you can rely on. Excise registers are tax and title records; theft sits with the police, in systems only officers can query. A clean excise record is not evidence a vehicle is not stolen.

If the vehicle is registered in Islamabad

Islamabad is the one register we can answer. Its portal asks for the registration date as well as the number; we work the date out, so the plate on its own is enough. If your vehicle is registered anywhere else, this box will not find it, and an empty result here means we did not look, not that the vehicle does not exist.
